Pastor Darrel Smith and his wife Pat

After our former Pastor, Richard (& Beverly) Jones retired at the end of August, 2016 (Click here for photos), our church began the search for God's man for this position. After six months without a Pastor, it was decided to call an Interim to help us through.

On March 19, Pastor Darrel Smith and his wife Pat arrived in Elmer to assume the position of Interim Pastor. They were not new to South Jersey, however, having founded Heritage Baptist Church in Mt. Laurel and serving as Pastor of that church for many years.

They are now officially "retired," but their desire is to help churches that are in the process of seeking a pastor as the Lord leads and enables.

We came to love them much and Pastor Darrel's teaching and encouragement meant much to us. In mid-September, 2017, the Smiths returned to their home in Michigan which had been vacant for several years while they served churches such as ours.

On Sunday evening, September 10, 2017, we had a fellowship time to thank the Smiths.

Pastor Darrel's birthday was later in the week, so we had to have cake and ice cream!

We wish Pastor Darrel and his wife Pat God's blessing in their future service for the Lord.

Beginning November 5, Dr. Walt Coles and his wife, Jan, assumed the duties of Interim Pastor. They too are no strangers to South Jersey having both been born and raised in Salem County. We introduce them in more detail here.
